Croque Monsieur

Submitted by Finn

The Doug Fir is a hipster bar, and hipsters usually piss me off. But it's happy hour at the 'Fir, and I need to get happy. $4 drinks and $2.50 appetizers equals "I don't care what you wear, start pouring and don't stop." A surprisingly tasty sandwich with Black Forest ham, bechamel and melted gruyere cheese. I say surprisingly because, well, I didn't think hipsters could cook.
Space Needle Scramble

Submitted by Finn

I love eating at diners, so when I spotted this one I had to stop in. It's 8:00 on a Sunday morning and already there's a line-up, a promising sign. Not exactly sure why they pay homage to a Seattle landmark 400km to the north; for the veggie sausage maybe? Whatever the reason this scramble was awesome. Eggs were fluffy, cheese nicely melted and spinach not too soggy - great combination of flavours. I question just how veggie the sausage really was (it sure tasted like meat) but other than that I dug into this dish with gusto.
New World Eggplant

Submitted by wilhelmus

Besides great balls of fire, Salvador Molly’s also serves 'pirate food'. The eggplant was stuffed with veggies and topped with cheese.
Uitsmijter Kaas

Typically cooked. There's not much to say about fried eggs. The service was insanely slow and uninterested.
Cheese Arepa

A traditional Venezuelan/Colombian cornmeal bread. It was different, but didn't rock my world. Banano's cafe is a deli style cafe.
Cheese Crunch Sandwich

Submitted by wilhelmus

Totally jet lagged, I got up early and went for a walk in Hyde Park to watch the sunrise. I was hungry and the only thing I could find was a corner store selling these sandwiches. I have no idea what made it crunchy, I hope it was carrot.
Terrible Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Submitted by wilhelmus

Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you. Or the fact that it's located in swanky Yaletown, wedged in between top-notch restaurants. This place is terrible. The atmosphere is awful. The cook doesn't know what's on the menu and therefore can't make half the items. So I ended up with a grilled cheese. No, a pound of sweaty cheese in between two pieces of toast. So much for our nice lunch.
Vegetarian Focaccia and Salad

Submitted by wilhelmus

The veggie focaccia was almost like you're ordering at Subway. Do you want pickles? Do you want cucumber? Surprise me! There was about a pound of cheese on it was well, too much. Pretty awful all around so my wife didn't even eat half of it and gave the rest to a homeless person outside.
Vegetarian Breakfast

Submitted by wilhelmus

It came complimentary with our hotel. Not a great breakfast but not terrible either. A little boring after a few days.
Gilled Cheese Sandwich

Submitted by wilhelmus

In Ireland, they grate every cheese sandwich. A little different and you'd think it would make the cheese melt a bit better. Not the case. The chutney however is a very good idea and has made it on my own grilled sandwiches back home.
